As per the latest news sources, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS) has increased the minimum age limit of kids for Class 1 admission from 5 years to 6 years. Inquiring this, a Court Case has been filed in the Delhi High Court.
This year the age limit for KVS Class 1 Admission was suddenly increased to 6 years. Earlier it was 5 years. This will spoil the whole year of the children. In 2021-22, the child was admitted to UKG or KG2. But, just four days before the admission process, KVS suddenly released new guidelines on the portal kvsonlineadmission.kvs.gov.in. From this, he has been made ineligible for class 1 in KVS in the academic year 2022-23.

A request has been filed in the Delhi High Court concerning the admission 2022 Criteria in Kendriya Vidyalaya. Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS) Class 1 Admission 2022 process already started on 28 February. KVS Admission 2022 Class 1 Age Limit Case
The official admission guideline brochure for 2022-23 conditions that a child must be 6 years of age as of 31 March in admission to Class 1. That is, children born on 1 April will also consider.
Delhi Government Said that “it has no role in the decisions regarding admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas and government schools in Delhi. Here the age limit for admission in class 1 is 5 to 6 years.
What was said by the court and the government in this matter?
When this request was heard in Delhi HC, the lawyer on behalf of the Center said that ‘the conclusion to increase the minimum age limit for admission in Class 1 to 6 years has been taken in the context of National Education Policy (NEP 2020). All Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country is bound to follow it.
The counsel for the Central Government said that in the National Education Policy, there is a mention of the 5+3+3+4 formula for school education. Out of the first 5 years in this, the first 3 years are for Pre School i.e. Nursery, LKG, and UKG. The remaining two years are for Classes 1 and 2. As per the NEP, the foundational stage of school education covers the age of 3 to 8 years.
The council said that ‘we have appealed to all the states to adopt a new education policy. At present, there are 21 states where the age limit of 6 years and above are also followed for class 1 admission.
